At least three persons died of a suspected deadly Lassa fever at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano.

The three victims including two medical doctors died few hours after operating a pregnant patient, suspected to be a primary carrier at the teaching hospital.

A senior medical doctor in AKTH who wanted his name not mentioned told newsmen that the case is under investigation to establish the fact.

He said the hospital has already collected samples of the primary source for investigation at the National Infectious disease.

While awaiting the results there was an emergency meeting on Monday night between the Kano State MOH & AKTH for harmonious effort on the suspected case. The two sides have shown commitment so far, a reliable source told newsmen.

It was also gathered that the authorities have commenced contact tracing of all health workers who participated during the operation while proper precautionary measures are being taken at the hospital.

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson of the hospital, Hajia Hauwa said no case of Lassa fever is established yet.

She, however, noted that the hospital has instituted a technical committee to investigate the suspected outbreak.
